Make Folder And Copy Files In Client Local Drive From Server?

Oct 29, 2009

I'm using PHP thru WAMP server 2 for a project. I have some MP3 files stored on the server. Now logged in at some other client machine, I want to copy some files from the server machine to client machine thru the copy($source,$destination) function. For this i have to define a particular drive on the client machine and make a user defined directory (that client inputs in a form) where the files will be coppied. Using the mkdir($dir) function i want to create the directory and copy the files over there.

The whole process is running absolutey fine on the server machine (i.e, if i log on at the server and perform the action), but it is not working on remote client machine since the mkdir function cannot create a folder in a remote client file system. Can i use the client IPadress to create a directory in the remote client machine?

P.S.: I do not want a save request download diolog box for individual files, nor a zipped file download. I just want to copy the specified files in a specific defined folder in client machine.

My Code:

$folder=$_GET['folder']; // user defined folder inputed from a form
$dir="D:\".$folder."/"; // Destination Directory to copy the files

Browing/Opening Local Files With A Local Drive Path?

Mar 23, 2009

Probably going to take javascript to acheive this, but i am using php/MySQL to make links to files on my local hard drive and build a directory of important files i use often. I add files by using the <input type="file" /> form element which browses to the local file fine. Store it in MySQL and it appears as a nice file link.

Storing <a href="C:usersfilename.ext" /> in a database for example, i can open (.png .jpgs .html) etc. but not anything else such as PDF which is the main file type i want. This path gets converted to file:///C:/users/filename.ext when it becomes an html link.

I can get round this by having an upload file section and actually upload the file into the directory of the php files (or sub directory...) so the path becomes just ../subfolder/filename.pdf but this is an added step i dont want to do. A mapped network drive for example would be better in a network environment.

SO thats what i want, not to double up on files by uploading them, just link to files. I know its down to security, but i dont know which way to move forward. Create a security certificate or something? From what i saw you have to pay for that, but i have no experience with this.I remember acheiving this with flash where the links open a local .bat file which in turn opens the file. But again i dont want the program to have to make a .bat file for each file linked to.

Upload Files From Local Folder To Server

Dec 10, 2010

ive recently created a gallery website and im happy with the way everything currently works. However the main drawback is the site uploads using a html webfom which is great for remote users or the odd image. However, as i want to mass upload my existing collection i will need the ability to read a selected folder and then to carry out all the same processes that existed from the existing html form upload.

Im also using gdlibrary and checking file types to ensure they are within my allowed list, but im wondering if there are any other common security alerts i should be aware of to keep things a little bit safer if/when i publish outside of my LAN. So in a nut shell i need some assistance with changing my upload process to work for more than one file at a time, ideally by reading a folder, or at least reading X amount of files at a time - processing them then moving onto next batch of files in the list.

Copy Files Repository To New Folder?

Mar 11, 2010

I have a folder named "repository" in my admin folders. This folder holds 2 files: index.html and content.php. When a user creates a new page the php creates a new folder specified by the user then will need to copy the two files into that folder while leaving them in the repository.

copy(file,dest) does not work. rename(file,dest) moves the files to the new folder but I lose them in the repository. How do I copy the files in one folder to the new folder without losing the files in the original folder?

$dest = '../'.$menuLocation.'/'.$pageName;
$file1= "repository/index.html";
$file2= "repository/content.php";

$menuLocation and $pageName are supplied by the user. The files are there, file_exists returns back true. Also, the directory is created with no issues. rename() also works I just lose the files in repository.

Build A Client-server Application For Local Programming Contest System?

Mar 26, 2011

I am thinking to build a client server system, in which the server can receive user's code and compile it and return the result to the user. This system will be used for a local online programming contest at my university. So basically, the user can write some code (PHP / C++ / Java, etc) and submit their code from the front end (web application). Once they click submit, this code has to be sent to the server, and then the server will compile the code and return the result back to the user.What is the best way to to this, so that the server cn compile multiple language codes (C++, C, Java, PHP, Python, etc)? What is the best practices in designing this system? Do I need to use web services to pass the user code to different services (1 service to receive and compile the c++ code, 1 service to receive and compile Java code, 1 for python, etc)?

Copy A Dir From A Webserver To A Mapped Network Drive?

Jan 20, 2010

For a PHP project I'm working on, focussing on data homogenity, a certain directory structure can be managed. After a user completes a process creating an object (I won't bother you guys with all the project details;)) this directory structure should be copied to a mapped network drive. Since the users might have the networkdrive mapped to a different driveletter, I'm using javascript (FileSystemObject) to get the driveletter. This is all OK. But now comes the tricky part. How am I able to copy my directorystructure, managed on the webserver by the webapp I'm building, to this networkdrive? I know I can use the FSO to create new directories, my problem is how to pass the recursive directorystructure from PHP into javascript.

Copy JPG Files From A Remote Server?

I'm using PHP to copy JPGs from a remote server to my own server. Is it best to simply use the copy() function, or are the jpeg-specific functions better? For example:

$copy = imagejpeg($img, $dest_file);

What would the best option be in terms of speed and memory load? Also, would there be any difference in the resulting image quality? I should add that this script is required to copy a large number of photos (typically hundreds, but sometimes it may be a couple thousand).

Reference A File On My Local Hard Drive As A Include?

I know this is probably a very dumb question with a very easy answer (and yes, I did Google it - it's probably just so self explanitory that no one's ever had the occasion to ask before. Can I reference a file on my local hard drive as a PHP "include?" I realize that simply by virtue of the fact that PHP is a server-side languge, the answer is probably "no," but I like to be told "no" rather than just assume it.

The guts of the file I'm working on live on my local machine, and I just need to get it through the PHP script on the server... Rather that go through the extra step of uploading the file to the server and then running it through the PHP script, I just thought it would be nice if I could cut out that middle step.
