Warning: Php_network_getaddresses: Getaddrinfo Failed:

I've got this small script which uses the file function, and I seem to be getting these annoying errors, can anyone understand this for me? Basically a user input form to type in URL then the backend script simply processes the url and prints the HTML for that page.
The interesting thing here is that if I don't place the '@' in front file I get these errors

Warning: Main(): Php_network_getaddresses: Getaddrinfo Failed:

I have a script that displays random quotes and messages. It used to work fine for over 3 years but for the past two weeks I keep getting the following errors which show up randomly and if you refresh the site the script might work fine again.

Warning: main(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/httpd/vhosts/domain/httpdocs/index.php on line 76

Warning: main(http://www.domain.com/articles/quotes/quotes.php): failed to open stream: Resource temporarily unavailable in /home/httpd/vhosts/domain/httpdocs/index.php on line 76

At first, the script was setup to open up a small text file and display the text which it contained. The person who hosts the site for me suggested that instead of opening the file I should try a php array. So I did that and I still get the error that I posted above. The error seems to be intermittant.

displaid !! with the error message ::

Warning - Getaddrinfo Failed: Name Or Service Not Known

I have reedited the previous question - since I had misunderstood what was causing the problem - and therefore the ample snippet I had before was a red herring. Thanks to wimdvx, First of all, I am using code that is base on this one, to handle IPN notifications from Paypal. I was unable to connect using fsockopen, so I wrote a small snippet (shown below), to try to connect to Paypal.

<?php
$fp = fsockopen("www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr", 80, $errno, $errstr,30);
if(!$fp) {
echo "$errstr ($errno)<br />

[code]....

When I run this little script, I get the following error on my server:

PHP Warning: fsockopen(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/minime/test-socket.php on line 2 PHP

fclose($fp);

When I run it, it outputs:

unable to connect to www.mydomain.net/1/file.php:80 (php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

I can't figure out why.

Warning: Main(URL): Failed To Open Stream: HTTP Request Failed!

I am getting this message when I try to get an include file remotely..

Warning: main(URL): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 200 OK in ... on line 25

Warning: main(): Failed opening '...' for inclusion (include_path='') in ... on line 25

It works some time's and not other times. I believe it is because the php file on the remote server is taking to long to process. Is there a way around this.... ie another way to process an include remotely and then have the results included in your program...?

If File_get_contents Failed ... Loop?

I'm having some trouble with file_get_contents failing & am trying to make a loop that will sleep & then retry a maximum of 3 times before giving up & moving to the next item. I tried using a while loop but I'm getting unexpected T_WHILE, which I assume is because it's already in a while loop? I found this:

Code: [Select]$maxTries = "3";
for ($try=1; $try<=$maxTries; $try++) {

but could use some clarification. Will that only trigger if it failes or do I need to include another if statement like

Code: [Select]$myfile = file_get_contents("http://example.com");
if ($myfile === FALSE) {
$maxTries = "3";
for ($try=1; $try<=$maxTries; $try++) {
sleep(3);
$myfile = file_get_contents("http://example.com");
[Code]...

i m trying to explain it as best I can without having to post my actual source code as I've had it stolen off forums before & now I have a clone to compete with. I'm not great at putting this into words so if I need to clarify
