I have created a Prev/Next script that when running appears to work fine. When the page loads it correctly displays 20 entries in ASC order and the "Next" link is displayed.
However, if i click the next button it successfully brings up the next 20 entries with the "Next" link but with no "Previous" link. Then, if i goto the last entries it successfully displays the "Previous" link. PHP Code:

First-prev-next-last

Jul 17, 2005

I was developing a browser based software and one of the features of
that software is that it will search some products with some matching
criteria and the result will be displayed the product names as a
links. Sometimes I got few thousands of product names and I want to
show 30 items at a time using html. I was using MySql as database and
PHP for programming.

Could anybody tell me how it is possible to show the result with 30
items each time having "first-prev-next-last" links? Where to store
the result? How can handle multiple user access?

Prev/next Mysql

Jun 10, 2002

hi, i am new to php and mysql, but have so far using devshed been able to create a basic news system. however as the amount of news posted per day increases i find i cannt display old news as i only want 5 on the main page.

hence i require a prev/next feature to cycle through the news. I ahve searched this site, and have tried to impliment 3 different prev/next sytems but and having real trouble as i cannot to get each to work.

could anyone help, sorry to sound a bit cheeky. heres the code:

Another Prev-next Issue

May 24, 2006

I have done many searches to implement prev & next links for my site. I got it to work, but not how I need it to work. I have a list of jokes that display the title, when someone clicks on the title it opens up to display the joke.

Now on that page I want to be able to go directly to the prev or next in the database. The way I have it now is it just grabs the id # and +1 for next and -1 for prev, which is not good, because it will go to an id page that doesn't exist.

For example, if my database has 4 rows with id's (3,5,6,7), it will try and goto 1,2,4,8 and display nothing on the page. What I think I need to do is put all id's in an array and create a script that will only display the prev & next when needed and only display pages in the database. Code:

Arrays Next() And Prev()?

Apr 7, 2010

I have an array that looks like this,

Array
(
[0] => 849710414
[1] => 849710726
[2] => 849710744[code]....

These are ID's that I need to add to an URL to navigate around the site, the IDs are the results that get returned from a user's search, the user then clicks on a search result and has the option of going to the next search result are look at the previous one, now I though I would be able to do this, by doing

<a href="<?=next($array);?>">Next</a>
<a href="<?=prev($array);?>">Prev</a>

How ever I does not seem to recognise what the current result ID I am looking at is to work what is next and previous?

Navigate Between Pages Like, PREV 1 2 3 4 5 NEXT Etc.

I would like my customers to be able to navigate between pages like, PREV 1 2 3 4 5 NEXT etc. I have managed to get this working using a combination of code created with dreamweavermx and by following the tutorial at php freaks. Prev/Next Links - For *Oracle*

May 3, 2002

I haven't found a workable solution for developing those Prev/Next links for Oracle. There's heaps of solutions for mySQL using the LIMIT clause and I realise Oracle uses ROWNUM, but with rownum, it seems that one can only just pick out row X to row Y in a query. The generic statement being:

SELECT FIELD1, FIELD2 FROM TABLE WHERE ROWNUM BETWEEN 1 AND 20

What good is it if I can only display the first 20 rows if I have say 300 rows and want to display 15 pages of 20 rows each? Perhaps some other method could/should be used? ... but then, I'm not experienced enough to know how else to do it.

..... Anyway, I still have a small glimmer of hope that in this day and age, it can be done. I'm sure it can. Someone out there must have an answer .... where are you??? If you have the answer, there will be hundreds of people who will be indebted to you. Believe me. Or if you know of a script stashed somewhere on some forgotten server - a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

I'll be going old school and use an iframe to hide the address bar as people shouldn't be able to catch onto the naming convention and skip ahead. (Its not too serious, so I want to keep it simple). What I want to do is based on the current page that they are on, say for example page5.php create links to page4.php and page6.html. Obviously without having to code each page manually. It would be ideal if ths were a javascript function as I dont want the address to show up in the browsers info bar but I'm open to php tricks as well.

So if I want to display 20 rows per page I do a limit with 21. So I know now that there is another row to diplay, then show the next link. Yet still display 20 rows on the current page and still start off at the 20th row in the next page. The current issue is if I had 0-19 on the first page, the next page would show 21-40, so its missing 20. I guess I just need to minus 1 on top of the offset to get the correct starting point.

Loops - Use Of Each(), Prev(), And Next() To Find Previous / Next Array Elements?

Apr 15, 2011

I have an array in which I want to find the previous and next elements. The problem is that I cannot manipulate the current element's index to find the previous/next elements, since the indices are strings that are generated. So, I am trying to use PHP's each() to iterate through the array, and once the current element is found, using previous() and next() to get the elements. But, this doesn't seem to be working. My attempt is below.Assume that $current represents the article for which we are trying to find previous/next articles for. We can assume that it will always appear in the array.

while (list($index,$article) = each($articles)){
if ($article['article_id'] == $current['article_id'])
[code]....

So, to explain, the function receive an id, send to a page that execute random stuff on a db and return true/false.The function inside check for result that can be true/false as said before.If true proceed to remove the dom element that match the id passed.The db is updated correctly but the .remove() won't work... someone knows why? :(The following is an example of the html structure. the table inside the TD is the one to be deleted.

<td width="120" valign="top" id="13_02">
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" class="tableProg" id="1">
<tbody>
[code]....

Making Preg_match() More Efficient When Batch Used - Start From Prev Spot?

Nov 2, 2009

Ok so here is my issue: I have a opened file, roughly 80,000 characters long I am using preg_match() to find a unique piece of text in this file, like 300 times. Is there a more efficient way to do this? **There is a patter that I have not taken advantage of but want to: -Each next term that I search for appears (somewhere, non constant distance) AFTER the spot where the previous term was.

So, Is it possible to start the search at the previous found text place (somehow move the cursor there)?, so that I do not waste time and resources checking a spot where my text is not for sure, hundreds of times.

Math - Come Up With A "prev" And "next" Link?

Jan 11, 2011

I'm displaying 10 records per page.The variables I have currently that I'm working with are.$total=total number of records.$page=whats the current page I'm displaying.I placed this at the top of my page.

if( $_GET['page'] == '' ){ $page = 1; }
//if no page is specified set it to `1`
else{ $page = ($_GET['page']); } //

[code]...

Now I guess(unless I'm not thinking of something)that I can display the "Prev" link every time except when the page is '1'.How can make it where the "Next" link doesn't show on the last page though?
