Anyone know where I can get tutorials, or find resources on creating php-based auction sites? There seem to be quite a few commercial versions, but nobody to explain the
theory/how-it-works. Tutorials, articles, anything?
Im developing an auction site like ajax penny auction. My problem is how to create autobidder in my application similar to the one in penny auction.Ive seen that their autobidder is taking one bid in each second. How can I do such a task? Is it done by scheduling a cron in every second ? or is there any other convenient method for that ?

Build A Lowest Unique Bid Auction And A Penny Auction Website?
I’m looking for a PHP expert who can build a lowest unique bid auction and a penny auction website. The job requires knowledge in the following: PHP, mySQL, AJAX, Java Full details of the project will be available to the chosen candidate, however to get a good idea of how these auctions work please see the following:[URl].. The site must be able to handle at least 200 thousand users, so only reply if you think you are capable of developing such a project. Ideally I would like this to be built from existing open source codes (if you have them or can find them) so there would be no legal issues.
Payment: First I will need to know if you have had relative experience in building large complex sites, then we can discuss fees.
I am looking for A Tutorial on creating a web site search engine. I dont want it to search the complete web just my site. I know i could find some scripts for this but I want to learn how to do it myself. I have been reading lots in the last few years on PHP coding but have not really started to do anything yet. I think it is about time I force myself to put what I am learninbg into practice and learn more faster by doing it. I also need a few recommendations on books I can read that are up todate with coding and real life examples, noot examples that may have been used 5 years ago.
I am currently working on a project for a client. I have already created the code for an auction site. They really wanted something custom so I built it. problem is I am so what new to php and I am wondering how would I go about writing absent bidding to the code.
I'm creating an auction website for a client. I can understand how to create the majority of the application using PHP but I don't understand how I get it to know when the auction has ended (the time has ran out) and then process that auction by closing it and emailing the winner.
I purchased a PHPProbid.com auction software package and a Bidware.com auction software package and I am wanting to set up a long term auction site. I purchased them both to see which one I liked better. My problem is, anyone can clearly look at the file structure on both auction packages and see they were created by the same person/company.
Many of the file names are identical and the coding in 90% of both programs match. PHPProbid's licensing state they own the software and Bidware's licensing also state they own the software. I want to put some money into my new auction business but I do not want to get into any legal battles over illegal software.
I would not think that both above companies can claim ownership legally of the same software. Can anyone tell me if the software these two companies are selling is basically a open source package such as PHPAuction that both are simply claiming ownership of? Thanks in advance for your answers to my dilemma.
My main objective is writing a fully functional penny auction website like [URL] etc. Which tools/sources should I use, frameworks (if any), etc. in order to complete this task in the shortest amount of time, while producing a quality product? Basicaly, what interests me is the best way to get this job done properly.
The project i'm taking a part needs some simple auction functionality. The basic concept is:
There is list of products of two types: fixed cost and auction. Registered users can buy the fixed cost product or bid for auction product. The list of all products is predefined by admin (5 fixed costs, 5 auctions). So it looks like simple auction or shopping cart with auction functionality. I don't care about the platform (but prefer php/lamp, ruby/ror, .net or java). Does anybody know any good open source solution which fits to my needs i described?
I am looking for a tutorial or advice wherein I can create a timer for my auction items. You can see those timers on the site like quibids.com The concept is like this.I post and auction and set an end time for the auction. When the auction is live, The timer will start and will show how many hours and seconds are remaining.

Check That An Auction Is Finished - Triggered Processing?
I have a few ideas about this but here is what I need to do and just wanted some second opinions really. I am writing a small auction site in PHP/SQL, but I have come up against a hurdle.
When an item finishes, much like eBay, I need to be able to tell that it's finished and send out the emails to who has won it and who has sold it. The only way I can think of is to schedule a piece of code to keep checking what auctions have ended but surely there is a better way?
getting started on building a live auction functionality on a website? I am most proficient in PHP, but am willing to learn other languages. I understand that AJAX will play a big role in this, but I can someone give me some direction in getting started with such a project?
