Placing A Call To The Object Inside A Function - Call To A Member Function On A Non - Object

Oct 8, 2009

I've searched high and low for the solution, and have found many that don't fit the bill. The general consensus is that this happens when you've not defined your object before calling upon it's functions. That isn't the case here (I think). Placing a call to the object inside a function seems to cause this error as shown below. Anyone have a solution for this? This works!

<?php
require('./dbConn.php');
$dbConn = new dbFunctions;
$dbConn->Connect();
$checkID = "SELECT COUNT(id) FROM table WHERE id='j5k38'";
$dups = $dbConn->FetchRow($dbConn->Query($checkID));
if($dups[0]>0){echo "false";}else{echo "true";}
?>

All this is from a php book i been reading. I guess the error is to do with this bit on line 17

Am guessing i have to define the object or something? this what the book tells me to do code for code i don't understand why it don't work?

Call To A Member Function GetDOM() On A Non-object

Jul 27, 2010

I'm trying to create a PHP function that adds an event to a google Calendar. It appears to be building the object correctly but it throws a "Call to a member function getDOM() on a non-object in FeedEntryParent.php" error when trying to add the event. Here is the abbreviated class with only the constructor and the function that adds the event:

class GCal_datasource {
private $user = 'xxxxxxx';
private $pass = 'xxxxxxxxx';
private $client;
private $gdata_cal;

The error (I believe) is how I am calling insertEvent() towards the end of the code. The only reason I think that is I only get the error when it exists and if I remove it the echo above it prints out the Event object as intended.

Catching A Call To A Member Function Of A Non-object?

Jul 18, 2010

I have the following method call:

PHP Code:

$this->registry->controller->get_data()->get_value( 'test' );

This works fine when the controller has a 'data' member object. However, when it does not, I get told:

Quote:Call to a member function get_value() on a non-object

My get_data method is as follows:

PHP Code:

public function get_data() {            if( $this->data )            return $this->data;            return null;        }

What more do I need to do to ensure that once it becomes clear that there is no data object, to not proceed with the method call on a non-existent object?
