FPDF And Fitting Text Within A Cell?

Jun 25, 2008

I'm using FPDF to generate dynamic reports. How can I make sure MySQL queried results don't overflow into adjacent cells if the text length is longer then the cells designated width? I once accomplished this by using CSS with white-space:nowrap and overflow:hidden. But I can't think of how to do this with FPDF.

Make Text Wrap In A Cell With FPDF?

Right now when I use a cell with text, it all stays on one line. I know I could use the write function, but I want to be able to specify the height and width.This is what I have now, but as I said the text does not wrap to stay in the dimensions: $pdf->Cell( 200, 40, $reportSubtitle, 1, 1 );

FPDF Cell / MultiCell Overflow And Align Bottom?

Ok. I'm trying to use FPDF to fill out an existing forms. I'm positioning my element with X,Y coords as well as giving each Width and Height attributes. Ideally, the text should align bottom left, and if it wraps, then it should push the text up, unless it can't fit inside the height of the MultiCell, then it just simply hides what can't fit. I would like this behavior in most places, but i would also want it to behave where it simply wraps as normal (which i believe is the default value.). So I would like to know if these 2 features are possible:

- overflow hidden when text flows outside the specified height/width dimensions of the cell/multicell
- optionally align bottom, so upon wrap, the first line text moves up, rather than staying fixed and pushing the 2nd line down.

Fitting Text Into An Image?

I have a function which takes in a font (ttf or otf file) and generates an image of text in different fonts. The problem I have is trying to work out how I can make the text fit in the image regardless of the font-size, type of font, and amount of text. I have tried to make the image rectangle variable so that it contains the text of different fonts without cutting a bit of the text since the image is not long or wide enough.

Here is the function that I currently have, I have tried using the number of characters to determine the width of the image, but in some cases for some fonts and sizes, it still gets cut off.

How To Center Text In FPDF

How can I have this generated text appear centered in the page.

Generated = $_POST method ... so I don't know how long will the text in input be. I need to have a pre-determined center parameter somehow.

Maybe like this:

FPDF: Calculating Justified Text Width?

so I'm using FPDF in PHP to programmatically generate a PDF file from images and text (not HTML).

One of the biggest issues I've been having is being able to wordwrap text around an image. My current algorithm looks like:

Get text as an array of words Add words one at a time to a 'current line' variable, and call GetStringWidth() on it to determine the width of the current line Once I reach a pre-determined max width, I pass off the current line to an array of lines, and start on a new 'current line'.

Doing this allows me to get an array of lines that shouldn't be breaking improperly, however I've discovered that because my text is justified-aligned, GetStringWidth() can't accurately give me the width of the line when it has been justified.

I've dug into FPDF's MultiCell method to try and figure out how it breaks justified text properly but can't really make heads nor tails of it. It seems to boil down to a similar algorithim (and it writes each line using Cell ) but it never actually seems to calculate the width, it writes out PDF "code" such as 0.375 Tw.

how to calculate the width of justified text, given a string and a max width?

User To Upload Images And/or Text Via Their Cell Phones?

I'm looking for a way for a user to upload images and/or text via their cell phones. It could be MMS but since most phones have email these days, maybe just a way to process email. I've seen various scripts. I've seen various discussions, though somewhat dated. I'm just trying to get an idea of what people are currently using.Ideally I'm going to have a photo gallery that will accept submissions from known users. I'd like images to be easily added to the page with a mobile device.

Use Mail() To Send Text Messages To A List Of Cell Phones?

I wrote a script that uses mail() to send text messages to a list of cell phones, and it works fine, but there's one thing I'd like to tweak and don't know how or even if it's possible.

The messages as they are received on the phone look like this:

apache@machinename.local/subject here/message here

Is there a way to spoof out the mail server (maybe with the header option in mail()?) to get rid of the machine name header?

PDF Using FPDF

I want a php (whose contents are in mysql db) and are accessed as $row['title'], $row['content'] etc; to be converted into pdf. I am using fpdf for doing so. In it's tutorial they have given the following code for header, footer and content generation.

<?php
require('fpdf.php');

class PDF extends FPDF
{
//Page header
function Header()
{
//Logo
$this->Image('logo_pb.png',10,8,33);
//Arial bold 15
$this->SetFont('Arial','B',15);
//Move to the right
$this->Cell(80);
//Title
$this->Cell(30,10,'Title',1,0,'C');
//Line break
$this->Ln(20);
}

//Page footer
function Footer()
{
//Position at 1.5 cm from bottom
$this->SetY(-15);
//Arial italic 8
$this->SetFont('Arial','I',8);
//Page number
$this->Cell(0,10,'Page '.$this->PageNo().'/{nb}',0,0,'C');
}
}

//Instanciation of inherited class
$pdf=new PDF();
$pdf->AliasNbPages();
$pdf->AddPage();
$pdf->SetFont('Times','',12);
for($i=1;$i<=40;$i++)
$pdf->Cell(0,10,'Printing line number '.$i,0,1);
$pdf->Output();
?>

It prints the printing line number , however i want to print the data in $row['content']. How to do it? Where should i write it?

FPDF, And HtmlArea

I need to collect information from a form into a MySQL database. People will be able to format their input using something called htmlArea -- it's a little tool that turns a plain text area box into a box like the ones we use to input info in this forum - with MS Word type easy text and link formatting. Once they're done and work is saved to the database, their information can be viewed/downloaded as a PDF.

I plan to use PHP to handle form input. It will be stored in a MySQL database as text. I will use FPDF to create the PDF files on the fly.

While htmlArea works really great for the non-techie user, unfortunately it adds a lot of MS Word excess HTML coding. The code can be as gruesome as FrontPage produced html....

I'm worried that pulling this excessively HTML encoded data from the MySQL database to be used with FPDF is just not going to work. Has anyone done anything like this and, if so, have run into problems with FPDF and funkily coded data?

Fpdf Php5

I have been using the same FPDF script with php4 for ages without a problem. I upgraded my server to php5 and hit one problem that I can't resolve.

The script basically generates a cover page for a quote, then the individual items for the quote. I loop through a series of rows all with the same height (in this loop). They correspond to about 3 rows of data per A4 page. The cover page and the first A4 page prints fine, but after the pagebreak the fourth row appears at the bottom of the next page, then after that it becomes unpredictable to the extent that it can print multiple empty pages, or throw individual cells down the pages (a mess). I also use the CheckPageBreak from the mc_table class which is included before the code shown. I have lifted the function CheckPageBreak out of the mc_table class for reference. I have also used this with the tcpdf version and get the same results. Completely baffled.

PHP Code: .............
