Connect To MySQL Localhost Database From Another Host?

Jun 18, 2010

I am trying to connect to MySQL database at on host (DBhost) from another host (PROGRAMhost).While I try to connect to the database at DBhost from DBhost itself the next is working fine for me: mysql_connect("localhost","qdbname","dbpassword")Now I am trying to find out what to use instead of localhost? I tried to replace localhost with host's url:port (I tried number of ports) but this is not working (even when I am connecting from DBhost itself). How can I find out what is the proper value to use instead of localhost?

Cannot Connect To MySQL Server Using PHP On Localhost

Nov 22, 2005

I have set up MySQL on my home computer, and I am writing a PHP enabled web
site to run queries on this database.

I have created a database called 'weather' on mysql that I want to access
via my website.

I have also created a user with a password (this isn't the real one, but
I'll use this to illustrate my point)
User: carlotam
Password: blah
Host: localhost

To which user I have granted all on database weather.

Using a PHP call: I try:

$username="carlotam";
$password="blah";
$database="weather";
$host="localhost";

$var = $_POST['topic'];

echo "<center><h1>ESCape Database Query</h1></center>";
echo "You have queried <b>$var</b><br><br>";
echo "Your database is: <b>$database</b>.<br>";
echo "Your username is: <b>$username</b>.<br><br>";

mysql_connect($host, $username, $password);
@mysql_select_db($database) or die("Unable to select database
<b>$database</b> on <b>$host</b>.");
mysql_close();

And I keep getting the message "Unable to select database weather on
localhost."

Is there something wrong with the above, or is there something wrong with my
MySQL server configuration? My server is up and running, so I was wondering
if anybody can help with this problem?

If this information helps: I am running MySQL 5.0.15 server on a PowerMac G4
laptop. And yes, I did check to see if the server was running before I
checked the code.

Apache - Curl Cannot Connect To Host On Own Server?

May 10, 2011

I have a PHP script that uses cURL to access a file also located on my server (installed email marketing program). I wrote a quick script to test my cURL installation and it fails when pointed at a file on my own server. The script is:

$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, "http://www.mysite.com/test.php");
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$contents = curl_exec($ch);
if($contents) {
echo $contents;
} else {

[Code]...

If I change the URL to [URL] or any other site, it works just fine. Also, when I try to open the specific page via cURL on another server, it works like it should. The assumptions I'm making from these tests is that the PHP cURL is installed and (kinda) working and that the problem is not in the page that is trying to be opened.

I thought it might be a port issue, so I tried specifying the port with the same result (not connecting to host). I tried both curl_setopt and [URL] to specify a port I know to be open.

This leads me to believe that the issue is something in my apache installation, but I'm not an apache expert and I've been banging my head against Google all day to no avail. what could cause such a specific cURL failure?

Can't Connect To Localhost XMPP Server On Port 5222

I've set up an ejabberd install locally on my Windows box, where I also have Apache, PHP and MySQL. I've also confirmed that it works great using Digsby, and have kicked the tires a bit by creating some users, sending some messages, etc. All good. However, PHP can't open a stream using stream_socket_client to port 5222. Even at its simplest level:

stream_socket_client("tcp://localhost:5222", $errno, $errstr, 30, STREAM_CLIENT_CONNECT);

Returns a timeout error. However, again, connecting with an IM client to localhost on port 5222 works fine. (Using stream_socket_client to open a simple connection to localhost on port 80 also works.)

Error: 2002 - Can't Connect To Local MySQL Server Through Socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

Jun 23, 2011

I have a server that's returning an unexpected, intermittent error and wondering if anyone has either experienced it before or can guess what might be going on. My search has so far has been unfruitful.

Im connecting to a remote mysql server using mysql_connect() in the usual way, but for the last 2 weeks (couple of times a day) the connection to the database fails and I get an unable to connect to socket error?

Error: 2002 - Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

Obviously this is unexpected as Im trying to connect to a remote host. Does mysql_connect default to localhost if the remote host is unavailable? I've not known it to do that, and nothing in the docs that say it does. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the failed connections, various files and it happens at all sorts of time of day. Im thinking it might be network traffic related, because if you refresh the page straight away it connects fine, but am confused as to why Im getting an unable to connect to socket error.

On localhost, I need to set it to this to get it work:
